As has been talked about on the BSA Innovation Engine and on many sites online the BSA has decided to pilot a new field uniform made by Under Armour. The reason for this is so that the program’s uniform ill appeal to kids who are embarrassed to be seen in the traditional scout uniform. While I’m not against Under Armour apparel I am against the reason for this change. When I put on my scout uniform I always wear it with pride as anyone should. When scouts are embarrassed to be wearing the uniform they might as well just take it off. A scout uniform is very much the same as a dress uniform in the military. You don’t see any of our servicemen embarrassed to be in uniform, no, they are proud. This change will make us like any other sports team or club. The scout uniform is a strong tradition that has been in existence since this organization began. Hopefully the BSA will not go forward with this change and will continue to use the current BSA field uniform.
So whats your opinion on this? Should the BSA change the uniform or leave it how it is? Please leave a comment or email me at kevtalk4@gmail.com.

I haven’t read everything about the proposed new field uniform, but generally field uniforms are created as additional Class B uniforms and not intended to replace the Class A. I wouldn’t worry yet. I suspect it will be targeting the same market as someone who’d buy this: http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDetail.aspx?cat=01RTL&ctgy=PRODUCTS&c2=APPAREL&c3=ASHIRTS&c4=&lv=3&item=615AS
