Are You Smarter Than A Boy Scout?

I recently picked up the most recent issue of Backpacker magazine. As I started reading the cover I noticed a title right above the magazine title, ” Are you smarter than a Boy Scout?” Of course I immediately found the article and began reading it. The idea; a group of three scouts from a troop in New Hampshire versus three adult readers of backpacker. The contest scouts versus readers in a series of outdoor tests, all information for the tests was taken straight from the boy scout handbook. The prize, the Golden Boot award, an award backpacker created especially for this event. The contests ranged from hanging bear bags and fire building to first aid and knots.  At the end of the description of how each test went was the book answer to the contest. In the end the winners were the readers although the reason they won the last contest of flag folding was because one of the readers had learned flag folding as a scout, which raises the thought, once a scout, always a scout? Anyways it was a very interesting article and I would recommend that you go out and pick up a copy of Backpacker or wait until the September issue goes online. So the question now is, are smarter than a boy scout?
